There isn't anything at all wrong with being unwilling to give creepy guys a chance. My creepy vibe radar is very sharp, too, like yours. I've also had people imply that I'd never find anyone as long as I kept being "so picky". It's not being picky to choose not to spend time with someone who creeps you out. That's just being smart and true to yourself. My gut feeling is that you will meet someone through your new job, and he'll be into music like you are.

Who's cooler than John Doe? I am pretty sure no one is. I would like to see The Rollins Band if they weren't the headliner, because I'm sure they put on a great show (I've owned one of their cds, like back from maybe 1994?)but I wouldn't go just to see Henry. Remember way back in the early days of Spin? They used to publish his poetry and he had a poem about his crush on Madonna making him feel like Bruce Springsteen that I thought was genuis. Creepy guys are just creepy. It's worse when they are drunk, because even nice guys can be creepy when they're drunk. Good for your radar.
