Just put in all caps PUT DARK SCENE HERE and jump ahead two or three chapters and start writing. You can go back and fill in those parts the next time you hit a block and you'll have it all figured out as the future has already happened. (Did that make any sense what so ever?) Sometimes jumping around in time works great. Write the sex scene when you're feeling sexy, write the depressing stuff when you can get into it, I find when I write about food I need to take a break and eat lunch. ;)

I'm having hte exact same problem right now - I'm finding my characters are boring me. Maybe it's time I put some excitement in their lives. I just read what KFK said - good advice - I may just use that myself!

the important thing is to just keep moving forward - subsequent drafts are when you fix everything and make it what you want. xoxo, d

You really wouldn't want to read a book about my sorted past, because it's not really so sorted. I just had a few years where I jumped at opportunities. A former roomate of mine dated Mark Lanegan whenever he was in Mpls though! I might send you a list of indiscretions on myspace, if you really want to be fascinated (NOT). Oh and read this old entry

I agree with the first commentor about jumping around in writing your novel. Sometimes you just need to keep writing and not let a hard scene stump you. I always feel better once I come back to it at the right time. If your characters are boring you, they might indeed be boring. Writing when you are depressed about depressing things is the perfect time. Wait until you are really upset about something and then just write, and then take out excerpts for your character. That will make it more realistic. Write me sometime... ~Phoenix
